However this may not hold true for genetic baldness in which there is no prevention. In non-genetic baldness, preventing hair loss is simpler process than hair loss treatment. Still very few pay attention to their hair fall. The basic steps to prevent hair loss are to take good and healthy diet, with high intake of water. It is recommended to drink 10-12 glasses of water in a day. Stay away from stress as it is one of the major causes of hair fall. Give your body proper 8 hours’ sleep and rest so that tiredness cannot affect your hair. Modern lifestyle takes its toll on your health in general and hair in particular. Hence, it is advised to indulge in activities that take stress away from you, like exercising, playing, engaging in a hobby etc. Do not drink bottled aerated drinks, canned juices and also refrain from canned food stuff since they contain preservatives which may be deleterious for both your health and hair.

Dirty hair is more likely to get infected and lead to hair fall, which is why it is advised to keep your hair clean. Wash your hair frequently, if possible using mild shampoo and conditioner or with natural herbal shampoos to prevent hair loss but shampoos should not be used more than 2-3 times a week. When you are washing your hair, you should give a gentle circular massage to the scalp which increases the blood circulation. Another home remedy to prevent hair loss is to use natural hair oil and give proper massage to keep your hair healthy. If you can’t use it on daily basis, you should apply hair oil before taking bath, and rinsing it while you shower. Avoid excess pulling of hair during combing, hair styling, etc.

While swimming in pools with high chlorine content, wear a swimming cap even if you are a male.

Avoid brushing wet hair, as it is weak and can fall off easily and more rapidly than usual even with slight pressure. If you are losing hair in the process of using strong medication, consult your doctor to change the medicine if possible.

If you must smoke and drink, please do it in moderation.
